The Importance of Community

The Importance of Community

Written by: Katie Olcott

The Schaumburg Business Association has made our own community, where the businesses and people within it all share the same goal, contributing to the economy and vitality of the places we work, raise our children and play. It is important to be a part of a community because it allows us to support the perpetual growth of each other, ourselves and our environment.  Community is more important now than ever as we start to recover from the last year and begin to plan for opening again.
Based on a poll by conducted by Fortune Magazine it has shown that Millennials are more likely to buy products or go to a business that is involved in their local community. For example, if they are in between choosing which business to support that produces similar products, they are more likely to choose the company that gives back to their community, cares about the environment and social causes.  The importance of community stretches farther than creating a great reputation for your business. When you support your community, it increases the funding for community organizations, cleans up the neighborhoods your customers live in, and in turn the community will support your business. People remember businesses that support their local community and it helps with referrals and getting your name out there.
2020 proved to us how sticking together and helping each other was the only way we could all get through it. Schaumburg Business Association Member, Steve Long with Blink Tees is a prime example of someone who sees the importance of community and moving forward together. Steve shared with us why Blink Tees chooses to be a part of the community and why it is so important.
“Blink Tees has always seen that being part of the local community is vital for us as a company and as individuals. This last year has proven that to be truer than ever. I have been humbled by the way fellow businesses owners have checked in on us, supported us and promoted us during this time. We hope that others can say we have done the same for them. Last Year we raised $55K for local businesses through our shoplocaltees.com campaign. We posted shirts for companies and organizations around the area. We sold, printed and shipped them all over the world and gave $10 for each shirt sold back to that company. I am proud to say we have brought it back for the month of March. Check out shoplocaltees.com to buy a shirt from one of the amazing companies or to submit a business to be on the site. We are all stronger together!”
Blink Tees is one of the many companies within our association that constantly contribute to the vitality of our community. With your SBA 2021 Window Decal you can place this in your store front and when people see it, they will know you are a part of a community and something much greater than yourself. Consumers are 44% more likely to think favorably of a business and 63% more likely to purchase goods or services from the company in the future when they know the business is a member of the local chamber of commerce. The sense of belonging and knowing you have the support of others is something unmatched. We provide these stickers as a way to connect and relate to others who are a part of this community. We hope that you and your company know that you are a part of something that provides support to one another.
