Minimum Wage increase July 1, 2020

Effective July 1, 2020, the minimum wage for Illinois will increase from $9.25 to $10.00 per hour. Employees currently earning more than the new minimum wage per hour can remain at their present rate. This increase will not require an update to the IL Dept of Labor's required postings, provided your business is displaying the poster effective January 1, 2020.

Payroll Transition
All hours worked on or after midnight, July 1, 2020, should be paid at the higher applicable minimum wage rate. If an hourly employee's workday spans across June 30, 2020 and July 1, 2020, two different rates could be used.

Chicago and Cook County
If your company has locations in Chicago, the city's minimum wage will increase from $13.00 to $14.00 per hour for any businesses with 26 or more employees.The minimum wage for Chicago businesses with 25 or fewer employees will increase from $13.00 to $13.50. The Cook County minimum wage will also increase from $12.00 to $13.00 per hour.
