Grubs, the larval stage of certain  beetle species, are a common and serious turfgrass pest in Illinois. Not only  do the grubs feed on turfgrass roots, which can damage and kill turf, various  animals such as moles, skunks and birds dig for the larvae, which can also  damage the lawn.

In infested turf, irregularly-shaped brown patches appear and large sections  can be peeled back from the ground, due to feeding on the root system. Grubs  are considered such a serious lawn pest because they can go unnoticed until  significant damage is already done, making prevention all the more important.

Grubs are especially prevalent in sunny turfgrass areas near pavement, and  damage is most severe from August to early fall. Grub damage can vary from  year to year, depending on weather conditions. That’s why it is important to  have your landscape contractor check for grubs to determine if treatment is  needed.

Early summer is the best time to apply chemical treatments, as this is when  the beetles are laying their eggs in the soil. The best prevention is early  detection and treatment - contact us today to ensure your turf stays healthy  and beautiful all summer!
